Letter, December 17, 1858.

Autographed letter signed to Paul [Langdon], Norfolk, VA, 17 December 1858, asking him to serve as his captain's clerk in USS Brooklyn, assigned to the Gulf of Mexico. States that the pay and the travel are not inducements but he would be pleased if Langdon accepted. Farragut discusses his orders for a trial cruise and other candidates for captain's clerk.

David Glasgow Farragut (also spelled Glascoe; July 5, 1801 – August 14, 1870) was a flag officer of the United States Navy during the American Civil War.
